Nikolas Demasi started his painting career around 2003 professionally, he was asked to do a series of commissions for a exclusive furniture store based in South Australia.
“the first rented house was three rooms with no back door, it had a kitchen and two rooms,i needed to make more space as i was making them in the kitchen on the floor…laying the canvas out on the floor. I remember having to condense all the things from the two rooms into one so i had enough area to basically lay carpet out……..there came my first studio.”
At the time of showing the works at a furniture store he was approached by a gallery owner to produce a body of work. This led to him having two group exhibitions based at Arterial Galleries based on Glen Osmond road South Australia.
“this was a great heads up for me, it was the real chance i needed to stand on my own two feet with my art, and it really allowed me to focus on my art and showcase my works, by then my small three room house had completely started to burst at the seems with artwork, and all i was doing was practically painting continually.”
in 2005 Nikolas was accepted into four of the five categories of the national based art competition ‘the Fleureu Biennial Art prize’ the richest art prize in South Australia for landscape painting, this led to the sale of two of his works at a competition level.
