In 2009 Demasi was asked to produceĀ a solo exhibition based in the outback town of Burra, for the Regional gallery based there.
“This Gallery is situated within the old Telegraph & Post Office building from which J McDouall Stuart sent his message in Dec 1862, to inform the SA authorities that he had successfully crossed Australia.”
My uncle used to be a school teacher in Burra and when we were younger we would be sent there for holiday times, i remember it being quite alternative and real historic. my uncle had a big workshop and a shopfront. some of the fondest memories when i was younger was visiting our relatives that lived there. the geographical location was something that struck me when i was a younger child”
“when deciding what to do with this exhibition i decided to spend some time out in those surroundings so i packed the 4wd and spent some time camping around that area. i think it is important to have that recollection with that place.”
After the show had finished then the work was packed up and headed for the Sydney gallery. Demasi remarks on his trip to Sydney. “”Sydney is such a vibrant city, so much packed into one place, as an artist i found my travels to Sydney rewarding on so many levels, the gallery culture is like no where else, the colour of the just everyday things is what plays with your senses.the city itself is continually alive, abuzz, with action. it is how i feel when i am in that zone ……it is all abuzz around me.”
